Telematics represents a set of systems inside
automobiles that leverage and integrate on
and off board computers, Global Positioning Systems (GPS),
and other communications technologies including
wireless communications to deliver a wide range of services to drivers and passengers,
auto manufacturers and dealers, and other third parties.
Vehicle telematics systems may be used for a number of services,
including enhanced safety and security applications such as automatic
crash notification, remote door unlock, roadside assistance, and
navigation support. Hughes Telematics has developed a comprehensive
suite of services that extend beyond traditional telematics and provide
more dynamic services that encourage daily use. These innovative
services fall into five categories including Safety & Security,
Convenience, Diagnostics and Emissions, Infotainment, and Navigation.
Service examples include comprehensive vehicle diagnostics emails,
ability to complete emissions inspection remotely, sending navigation
destinations to your car from a computer, collecting road tolls, and
downloading personal media like pictures, songs, or ringtones.
